FAQ GeoDAS Messenger Email Setup MAPI


1. Introduction
  • This procedure describes how to set up GeoDAS to send email using Messaging API (MAPI) provided by the default email client of Windows.
  • It is recommended to use Mozilla Thunderbird as the default email client.


2. Required Tools
  • GeoDAS installed on a Windows computer
  • Email account for sending emails
  • 32-bit version of Mozilla Thunderbird installed on a Windows computer (It is important to install the 32-bit version, even if your operating system is 64 bit.)


3. Set up Mozilla Thunderbird
  • At the first startup of Thunderbird, the window Account Setup will be shown.
  • Enter a name.
  • Enter your email address.
  • Enter the password of your email account.


4. Set Default Email Client
  • In Windows under Settings -> Default Apps, make sure Mozilla Thunderbird is set as default email Application.
  • If a different app is shown as default, click on it and choose Mozilla Thunderbird from the appearing list.


5. Send Test Email from GeoDAS
  • In GeoDAS under Settings -> Messenger, tick the box E-mail service using the interface and choose Messaging API from the dropdown.
  • Click the button [Test Messenger...] 
  • Enter the email address you want to send the test message to and press the button [Send test e-mail to:] to send the test message.
  • A Windows message may appear, asking to confirm that GeoDAS is allowed to send emails. Untick Warn me whenever other applications try to send email from me and confirm with [OK].
  • If you get an email with subject Test of the Messenger functionality, the test has passed.


6. Create List of Email Recipients
  • The list of recipients is a text file with name and email address of recipients.
  • Open a text editor such as Windows Notepad
  • Enter the email recipients; every line of the list must have the following format:
  • Save the file with extension .lst (not .txt!)

 

7. Set up Notifications and Messages in GeoDAS
  • In GeoDAS window Stations: General Information, right-click on a station and choose Status Info...
  • Tick the boxes of the corresponding notification types you want to receive as emails .
  • Click the button [...] to browse the .lst file with the email recipients.
  • Close the window with [OK] and restart GeoDAS.
