Frequently Asked Questions

How to evaluate the noise performance of a unit?

We evaluate the noise performance of our instruments based on the well known ANSS-recommended per bin method,
which is proposed as a standard for characterizing seismic instruments by the USGS.

How to calculate the resolution of a unit?

Resolution is expressed in bits in 2 variants in units of [Bit]:

Noise free / Peak-Peak (PP):

Effective / Root Mean Square (RMS):

Fullscale and Noise could be expressed in counts, volts, g, mm/s, etc.
For example for a ±2 g sensor the Fullscale is 2 g.

How to calculate the dynamic range of a unit?

Dynamic range is expressed in bits in 2 variants in units of [dB]:

Noise free / Peak-Peak (PP):

Effective / Root Mean Square (RMS):

Fullscale and Noise could be expressed in counts, volts, g, mm/s, etc.
For example for a ±2 g sensor the Fullscale is 2 g.

How to convert
Bit (resolution) to dB (dynamic range)?

The approximate formula to convert Bit to dB is as follows:
